Long Live the King! – Preserving Elvis in the Archives

On August 16, 1977 Elvis Presley tragically bid the world his last farewell. On the 40th anniversary of his death, join us at the Old Greenbelt Theatre for an exploration of his life and legacy through viewing one-of-a-kind archival footage.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Moving Image Archive (MARMIA) recently acquired the entire archive of Baltimore television station, WJZ-TV. Specific Elvis videos were culled from the collection and then digitized for this one night only event. These videos have not been seen since they were first aired in the 1970s and 1980s!

Siobhan Hagan, the President and CEO of MARMIA will be hosting this deep dive into the unique footage of Elvis. We’ll be showcasing a few rarities from other sources in addition to the footage from MARMIA’s WJZ-TV Collection.

Discussion will explore themes related to his music as well as examining the mythologization of his death and its impact on our collective consciousness.

This event is free and open to the public! See a teaser for this event here.
